ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Headquartered in the province of Cotabato, Kilambay Plantation Corporation (KPC) began its humble journey as a seedling nursery provider and quickly progressed into a well-established agricultural service provider committed to fostering sustainable agriculture and social progress.

The corporation was founded in 2011 by Mr. Jerry John Taray and his wife, Ms. Jocelyn Taray, with the aim of introducing sustainable farming and uplift the lives of indigenous Filipinos or upland communities in Cotabato.

As climate change becomes an extremely pressing global issue affecting all forms of life in our planet, KPC decided to venture into plantation development. This resulted in the establishment of its first giant bamboo plantation site in Carmen, Cotabato. As we all know, bamboo has twice as much carbon sequestration capabilities as compared to other plants and trees.

This, therefore, makes KPC's giant bamboo plantation an asset in the fight against climate change and carbon removal initiatives. As of date, the first plantation site in Carmen, Cotabato consisting of 3,000 hectares is already operational and has employed over 400 indigenous peoples (IPs), both in administrative and plantation work. This, however, is just the beginning, as KPC targets to plant more giant bamboos of over one million hectares in various areas in Mindanao, aiming to reforest and preserve ancestral lands, as well as provide a stable source of livelihood for IPs.

In pursuit of effective project implementation, KPC has also partnered with various government agencies such as Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Cotabato LGU, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), and Rizome Philippines that represent the private sector.
